Teachers, Principals – SACE Checks is a Must
SACE is the professional council for educators, that aims to enhance the status of the teaching profession through appropriate Registration, Management of Professional Development, and inculcation of a Code of Ethics for all educators.
SACE requires police clearance certificates to ensure that only people with good character and integrity can teach in South African schools.
School principals who don’t conduct SACE checks and employ staff with a criminal record can be held criminally and civilly liable for failing in their duty of care to children or vulnerable people
The most important areas that school employees need to be screened against are the National Child Protection Register, the National Register for Sex Offenders, and their qualifications.
Who must register with SACE?
Section 21 of the South African Council for Educators Act, 2000 requires that:
– every educator contemplated by the Act must register with the Council before appointment to a teaching post, and.
– no person may be employed as an educator by an employer unless that person is registered with the Council.
Does a SACE certificate expire?
